DIZZINESS, MOTION SICKNESS – WHEN TRAVEL BECOMES TORTURE
Dizziness may occur for a variety of causes. Triggers include so-called motion sickness, low or high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis or diseases of the inner ear.
Be sure to have the cause evaluated and treated.
If you have a tendency for dizzy spells, ensure a balanced life-style: get enough sleep, regular and healthy meals, and plenty of exercise in fresh air. Avoid excessive nervous tension and promote blood flow to the brain by doing relaxation exercises and loosening up the neck muscles.
Motion sickness is also known as seasickness or travel sickness. It is defined as nausea with dizziness and vomiting brought on by using a means of transportation (such as a bus, car or ship). Motion sickness is caused by conflicting input from the eyes and the sense of balance in the inner ear: During a cruise for example, the organ of balance perceives the motion of the sea waves, whilst the eyes register no motion, since the ship is not moving relative to the observer. This conflicting input is processed incorrectly by the brain; the response is dizziness which may even result in vomiting.
Upon consultation with your prescribing healthcare provider, you may want to use VERTIGOPAS® to help relieve dizziness.
It is also possible to take VERTIGOPAS® half an hour before a trip. In severe cases, the remedy may be taken for two days before a trip.
Travel Hints:
- Get fresh air during your trip (periodically open the car window, take frequent breaks)
- Sit directly behind the front axle in a bus or coach (where you will experience the least motion)
- Look at the horizon (focus on a distant point)
- Choose light foods
- Divert yourself or your child(ren)
- Drink plenty of fluids (choose non-carbonated water if possible)
